About The Collateral Beauty Project
Why This Project Exists
The Collateral Beauty Project began with a simple observation:
Two people can experience the same moment and walk away with completely different realities.
The same sentence can feel caring to one person and controlling to another.
The same silence can feel peaceful to one person and rejecting to another.
The same act can be interpreted as love, criticism, protection, manipulation, honesty, or distance depending on the person experiencing it.
This project explores how perception, interpretation, communication, and lived experience shape the realities people believe they are sharing.
What The Project Explores
At its core, The Collateral Beauty Project is an ongoing exploration of:
- perception and interpretation
- communication and misunderstanding
- relationships and emotional reality
- shared experiences viewed from different perspectives
- the difference between intention and impact
- the ways meaning changes depending on context, history, and orientation
Rather than treating disagreement as proof that one person is fully correct and another fully wrong, this project asks what becomes visible when perception itself is examined more carefully.
How The Project Is Expressed
The project currently takes shape through:
- essays and written reflections
- video conversations and observations
- ongoing public discussion
- and a developing book centered around these themes
Some ideas are deeply personal.
Some are practical and relational.
Some are structural and philosophical.
All of them are attempts to better understand how human beings experience the same world so differently while often believing they are seeing the exact same thing.
